There are residency requirements imposed by Massachusetts that you must fulfill before you can get divorced in the state. Under the divorce laws in Massachusetts, the residency requirements depend on where you were living when the reason for the divorce arose.
If the cause of the divorce occurred outside of the state of Massachusetts, you are allowed to divorce in MA only if one of the following is true:
If the cause of the divorce arose in Massachusetts, then you can get a divorce in the state as long as you live in the state at the time when you’re petitioning the court to dissolve your marriage. However, if there is reason to believe you relocated to Massachusetts just to get divorced, then you will not be granted your dissolution.
